A visit to the stunning gardens of Yves Saint Laurent in Marrakech
In the afternoon of our first day of our photo tour, we visited Jardin Majorelle, the design garden where Yves Saint Laurent found his peace and creativity; a feast for the eye and soul, where colours used by Matisse mixes with the colour of nature.
It was the painter Jacques Majorelle who spent forty years to create this sanctuary. He put all his passion and dedication into it. Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé bought the property and gardens in 1980 to save it from being torn down and replaced by a hotel complex. They moved into the stunning house and named it “Villa Oasis”.
YSL passed away in 2008 in Paris, but his ashes were scattered in the rose garden and a memorial was built and still remains here.
There’s also a gallery, two shops and a lovely café.

The addition of the breathtaking YSL museum a few years ago is absolutely worth a visit if you like the history of fashion and YSL! It’s right next to Jardin Majorelle, buy tickets in advance and hop in a local taxi to get there. Please be aware that taxis aren’t allowed to stop in front of the museums anymore, so make sure you have a pick-up point around the corner or can communicate with a driver if you’re there with a group.
