Stag Night! As in Rutting Season and slowly moving through the woods at dusk to see these massive beasts clashing their antlers to show who’s king of the castle – the loud snarling and bellowing makes you feel as if you’re in Jurassic Park!

I couldn’t decide if I should go for my new Sony RIV with 200mm lens or my really old Nikon D800 with a 300mm lens. Had I felt in form I would have brought both and compared the results but decided to go for the longer lens.
it was relatively dark before the enormous red stags started their show, so a high ISO and relatively low shutter speed – but thankfully they we standing rather still…

A beautiful walk through this wilding land at Knepp Estate – well worth a visit any time of the year.
