It’s been a huge honour to be asked to do photography and video work for YMCA Downslink this year, including their 2024 Christmas campaign. Meeting the young people at their supported accommodation and talking about their dreams and hopes was the best part, doing some extra personal portraits for them, giving them a small opportunity to see themselves with pride – they were all beautiful.
Most of us have heard of the YMCA (
) but do continue reading to get an idea of what the YMCA DownsLink group does.
YMCA DownsLink Group is a charity working to transform the lives of children and young people (16-24) across Sussex and Surrey.
They work to prevent youth homelessness and provide a home to over 650 young people every night.
They reach a further 7,000 children, young people and their families through their other services, such as counselling, support and advice, mediation and youth work, so that all young people can belong, contribute and thrive.
Many children and young people experience extraordinary challenges and adversity that can prevent their lives starting well. The ever-increasing level of risk and complexity they face has driven our services to be needed now more than ever before.
